Tescan is more than an instrument manufacturer. We’re a global team of engineers, scientists, designers, and application experts — building advanced imaging instruments and the solutions around them.

For over 30 years, we’ve helped scientists see deeper with advanced SEM,
micro-CT, and now 4D-STEM technologies — like our TENSOR platform, the first transmission electron microscope built from the ground up for 4D performance.

We design with real workflows in mind — from materials science and geosciences to life sciences and semiconductors — ensuring every system is intuitive, application-ready, and fully supported throughout its lifecycle.

Our story

Tescan began in Brno, Czech Republic - a global hub for electron optics - with a clear goal: to make high-performance imaging more accessible to researchers everywhere. Today, we deliver more than instruments. We design complete solutions, systems, workflows, and supportservices that fit how scientists actually work. While the specs are important, we believe that user experience is key to enabling discovery, anddiscovery and turning partnership into progress.
1991

From Tesla to Tescan

Tescan was born in Brno, Czech Republic, where a legacy of electron optics was already part of the city’s DNA. Founded by former engineers from the Tesla factories (one of the world’s first leading electron microscope hubs), the mission was simple but ambitious. Build world-class imaging systems that were easier to use and more accessible to the researchers who needed them most.

1999

Early innovations

Early innovations like PROXIMA (our integrated optical navigation system) and the VEGA variable pressure SEM set a tone we have kept ever since - practical, intuitive, and driven by real research needs. 
At the same time, Orsay Physics was doing something similar in France. Since 1989, they had been pushing the boundaries of focused ion beam (FIB) technology, developing custom solutions for microelectronics and materials science. Like Tescan, they believed tools should fit the people using them and they knew real innovation happens at the intersection of science and usability.
