FIB-SEM tomography combines a focused ion beam with ultra-high resolution SEM to deliver the best Z-resolution. This method employs a FIB to sequentially mill nanometer-thin layers and SEM to image each exposed surface, enabling the capture of complex biological structures with exceptional precision. It reveals subcellular architecture and spatial relationships that are not visible in a single imaging plane. Moreover, plasma FIB is ideal for processing hard biological materials, such as bones or shells, enabling detailed 3D reconstructions across diverse specimen types.

SERIAL BLOCK-FACE IMAGING

Serial Block-Face SEM (SBF-SEM) is ideally suited for high-resolution 3D imaging of cells, tissues, and small organisms. By repeatedly removing thin slices with a fully integrated ultramicrotome and imaging each freshly exposed surface, it captures detailed data across the entire volume, preserving the full context of the sample. This technique is perfect for studying structural relationships across extended regions, mapping cellular networks, and analyzing rare events. By combining high-contrast imaging with efficient volume acquisition, SBF-SEM provides reliable, detailed 3D reconstructions for a wide range of biological applications.

ARRAY TOMOGRAPHY

Array Tomography combines serial ultrathin sectioning with automated SEM imaging to generate high-resolution 3D reconstructions of cells, tissues, and small organisms. Sections are cut using a standalone ultramicrotome, collected on a ribbon, and automatically imaged using the dedicated AT software module. Large overview images and optional correlation with fluorescence data allow precise targeting of regions of interest, reducing unnecessary acquisition time. The Dedicated Array Tomography software module guides the user through slicing and imaging setup. This enables reliable volumetric reconstruction while preserving sections for re-imaging or further analysis.
